Marine Reach Global Partner YWAM Barbados Kicksoff 2023 Construction Ministry and Mission Builders Programs

Midland, Texas (March 15, 2023) – YWAM Barbados started off its 2023 year of Christian programs and ministry outreach with a team of nine missionaries from Pennsylvania, and 16 young adult seekers from Denmark, USA, Canada, Switzerland and Germany who arrived at the base in mid to late February. The Pennsylvania team came with great construction and building skills and are part of a group that has a long history and relationship with the organization tracing back to the tenure of former YWAM Barbados Base Leader Bill Landis. The young adults are part of the Mission Builders International, a program which YWAM Barbados participates in to give youth the opportunity to volunteer, seek and serve Christ.

The week of February 27th saw the construction team and mission builders undertaking several construction ministry projects on the YWAM Barbados campus, which is a more than 200 year old former sugar plantation, repurposed to serve God and currently offering community nights, youth camps, training and meeting rooms, a prayer room for quiet reflection, a community market, and Discipleship Training School. The base experienced damage during the 2021 hurricane season and the construction ministry included roof repairs, electrical upgrades, bathroom and housing remodeling, the completion of the removal of uprooted trees and tree trimming. The Construction Ministry program, which was under the leadership of one of the base leaders Jack McCall, supports YWAM Barbados’ campus development which helps expand and grow ministry capacity by increasing housing, meeting areas, classrooms and practical needs to run a campus.

In addition to the construction ministry, the Barbados partner of Marine Reach Global also fully restarted its community outreach initiatives with Mission Builders joining local YWAM Barbados volunteer and schools’ program leader Beverly Pinder in visits to local schools to conduct youth Bible study classes. These are part of the organization’s direct involvement in the neighboring areas that also include evangelism and the hosting of Christian video series, discussion and prayer nights at a local village community center.

Current YWAM Barbados Base Leader Rob Lucerne said, “It is rewarding for all of us to be able to welcome missionaries back to our campus and see the hands and feet of God at work in our midst. While we still had some limited programs running during the past two years of COVID restrictions, we are now getting things going again fully, and we’re thankful to the team from Pennsylvania, the Mission Builders, our dedicated volunteers and for the recent visit from our Founders Bill and Val Landis who shared their wisdom and blessed us with their presence here.”

Marine Reach Global Starts 2023 Amazon Outreaches

Midland, Texas (March 7, 2023)  – Marine Reach Global (MRG) today announced the successful kickoff to its 2023 Ministry Outreach program with community outreaches from February 26th through March 4th 2023 in Manacapuru, Brazil on the Amazon River where the MV Pacific Hope, MRG’s flagship medical relief and Christian ministry outreach vessel, is currently visiting. With the generous support of our many donors and volunteers, along with the prayers of our supporters Marine Reach Global was able to conduct a Bible Outreach ministry down in the town’s riverfront market and partner with three local organizations that included an orphanage, a disability center catering to persons of all ages, and a senior citizens home.

Since the COVID 19 outbreak, Marine Reach Global has continued its ministry outreaches, sometime with just the crew on its vessels because of international travel restrictions and the difficulties encountered by volunteers trying to comply with regularly changing country entry requirements. This 2023 kickoff outreach saw the return of the lifeblood of our Christian ministry efforts with five volunteers joining the MRG leadership team and Pacific Hope crew to visit social service organizations in Manacapuru to pray, play and show the love of God through the vision and eyeglass clinics, Bible distribution, youth Christian themed crafts and games, and with blessings of donations of needed supplies.

MRG’s Captain Marvin Wilson who led the outreach said, “Marine Reach Global’s mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ showing His love through our Christian community outreach and Bible distribution. We pray with, help in various ways and introduce people to God through our examples of His love.” He noted, “It is hard to truly state how ecstatic I am about the success of our 2023 kickoff ministry outreach in the Amazon. Our outreach team was able to work with three great organizations Casa Esperanza [House of Hope] a local orphanage, APAE (Assoc. de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais [Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional] a group working with and on behalf of persons with disabilities) and Espaço Acolher Casa de Sara, a senior home and spend time with their communities in conversation, conducting eyeglass clinics, playing with the children and sharing stories of our culture and missionary outreach, while also learning about the gracious people of Brazil.”

Marine Reach Global is planning more outreaches and mission trips for 2023. Captain Marvin said, “We are looking for individuals, churches and even company groups who are interested in volunteering and joining us on our Amazon Outreach.” He urged everyone to visit the MRG website at marinereachglobal.org to check for outreach dates adding that MRG is also looking for volunteer crew interested in longer term engagements. “This is also a great opportunity for crew looking to answer the call to serve in the ministry and support our mission so I encourage them to check out those opportunities too,” he said.

Pacific Hope Global (PHG) is delighted to partner with the producers of One Nation Under God (ONUG) to help promote this unique and timely film. We’re honored that ONUG has agreed to donate part of their profits to our ministry. The film has received many awards and high praise from various groups across America, including members of Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. But don’t just take our word for it … check out the press release from Lakewood Church below:

LOS ANGELES, June 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Fresh on the heels of the Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives’ removal of the words “so help me God” from that institution’s swearing in oath, a new feature film which debates the excision of the words “one nation under God” from the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance was screened for an invited audience at Joel and Victoria Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston on June 7, 2019.  The audience in the packed theatre responded with thunderous applause as the credits rolled, signaling their overwhelming approval of “One Nation Under God,” which is slated for a year-end wide release.

Lakewood Church, with a membership of more than 18,000, regularly holds Lakewood Movie Night, at which quality family films are screened.  In selecting “One Nation Under God” for its most recent screening, Jackelyn Viera Iloff, Senior Advisor and one of the church’s ordained ministers, said, “Our founding fathers placed God at the center of our country, but today, it has become our greatest battle to keep Him there.

#ONENATIONUNDERGOD shares the story of a Hispanic student from an immigrant family that boldly steps out to protect his first amendment right in his school and challenges the lead candidate for the Presidency of the United States to do the same. Together, they take a stand for what they believe.”

“We are grateful to Joel and Victoria Osteen, Jackelyn Viera Iloff, and the members of Lakewood Church who so overwhelming embraced our film,” said Executive Producer Christian Briggs.  “Their tremendous response tells us that this film is a rarity today – a family film about standing up for what is right that is also great entertainment.  We are looking forward to bringing ‘One Nation Under God’ to audiences everywhere later this year.”

“One Nation Under God,” starring Kevin Sorbo, Antonio Sabato Jr., Casper Van Dien, Lois Robbins, Herschel Walker and Isaak Presley, has received 32 major awards at film festivals over the past year.  Underscoring the film’s excellence and relevance among faith and family audiences, it has won top awards at the International Film Festival, God Country Family Film Festival, Christian Film Festival and many others.

Written and directed by Lisa Arnold, who co-produced the hugely successful 2014 “God’s Not Dead,” “One Nation Under God” dramatizes the ongoing debate surrounding the First Amendment, freedom of speech and censorship when a new student at a Louisiana magnet school questions a policy in which the words “under God” are omitted in daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

About “One Nation Under God”:
When a magnet school teacher in Louisiana (Sorbo) is confronted by a new student (Presley), a young Latino raised by a single mom, who questions the school’s policy toward his First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion, the subject becomes the basis of a debate in a juried showdown with a rival school.  Casper Van Dien plays the school’s principal who staunchly defends the policy, and Antonio Sabato Jr. plays a senator who has his eye on the White House, yet whose public comments supporting a place for faith in education get him in political hot water.  Football legend Herschel Walker plays himself as an alumnus of the school

“One Nation Under God” is a Suretone Pictures/Film Incito co-production. Nick Thurlow, Jordan Schur, Jarred Coates and Lisa Arnold are producers.  Christian Briggs, Herschel Walker, David Mitchell and Keith Jensen are executive producers.

Pacific Hope Finds a Home with YWAM Barbados

Pacific Hope Global (PHG)—a subsidiary of Marine Reach Ministries in New Zealand and part of the Youth with a Mission (YWAM) family—is pleased to announce the securing of YWAM Barbados. Both entities have been in negotiations for the past month and have reached a mutual agreement.

PHG’s parent company, Marine Reach, has operated medical ships in the Pacific Ocean for nearly 30 years. They have provided medical and developmental aid in excess of $50 million (USD), treated 500,000 patients in more than 20 nations, and led thousands to a relationship with Christ. The flagship, M/V Pacific Hope, was brought to the Caribbean in 2018 to provide aid in the aftermath of hurricanes Maria and Irma. With a fully functional and state-of-the-art dental clinic, eye surgery unit, and general medical facility, the M/V Pacific Hope has made a great impact in ministering and assisting the nations of Dominica, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahama Islands (Grand Cay, Grand Bahama, and Grand Abaco).

PHG recently secured a second ship, the S/Y Next Wave, birthed from the Marine Reach family of ministries and purchased from YWAM UK. The S/Y Next Wave has operated Discipleship Training Schools (DTS) and YWAM outreaches in Europe since 2007, and recently provided aid and spiritual support to the Greek refugee camps in Lesvos. The S/Y Next Wave is currently undergoing a full refit in Istanbul, Turkey, and will soon relocate to the Caribbean and begin operating PHG’s Divemaster DTS in October 2020.

YWAM Barbados has been in ministry for more than 25 years. It was founded by Bill and Valerie Landis in 1994. Shortly after the Landis family arrived on the island, YWAM Barbados purchased the Thicket Plantation property, a 7.5-acre parcel of land that included the plantation Great House. Over the years, several more student/staff housing units were added to the property, and the base grew in its development with a DTS program (3 Nations), prayer ministry center (Caribbean Prayer Rooms), youth outreach programs, and multiple schools (School of Frontier Missions, School of Biblical Studies, and School of Performing Arts). YWAM Barbados is now a thriving central hub for training and dispatching missionaries for the Caribbean, Central/South America, and Europe.

Pacific Hope Global and YWAM Barbados have agreed to a board restructuring that benefits both ministries. The facilities in Barbados will continue to provide training, prayer and youth outreach programs, and home base operations. In addition, PHG will use the facilities as a land base component for both the M/V Pacific Hope and S/Y Next Wave.

Captain Marvin Wilson, Chairman of the Board for Pacific Hope Global and YWAM Barbados, said, “We’re extremely grateful to the faithful ones who went before us and laid a strong foundation in the Caribbean over the past 25 years. We’re excited about this merger and can’t wait to see what God has in store for this ministry over the next 25 years.”

Pacific Hope responds to COVID-19 in the Bahamas

A Letter from our Captain

Pacific Hope crew ready to serve the Abaco Islands during COVID-19 crisis

Dear friends and supporters,

With all of the craziness happening in the world right now, I want to brag on my crew a bit and share some incredible things happening with Pacific Hope in the Bahamas.

Currently, there are no church groups on board. There are no volunteer groups on board. The only people on board are 16 crew members dedicated to serving Pacific Hope and the people of the Bahamas. Captain Danny Lucerne is leading the efforts on the ship, as I am in Turkey working on another project for the ministry.

This weekend I got a call from the Bahamian government. They need help in the Abacos. Most towns in the Abacos still do not have water from September’s hurricane, and now, the elderly must stay indoors. Most of the aid organizations helping with storm recovery have pulled out and the volunteers have gone home due to the Coronavirus.

My crew on Pacific Hope immediately acted on the call to help. They fired-up the ship’s three water makers (turning salt water into potable water), pulled anchor in Freeport, and sailed 20 hours to Coopers Town. They hit the ground running and immediately deployed our three all-terrain vehicles and two trailers to deliver supplies to communities still recovering from the storm.

In the coming days, we will be working with the Bahamian government to start rebuilding village clinics, cleaning up debris, and assisting with health screenings.

I couldn’t be more proud of my crew and their dedication to helping those in need. They are true heroes spreading the love of Christ during this crazy time in the world. All 16 crew members are listed below. Please keep them in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Captain Marvin Wilson
Pacific Hope Global
